    Privacy Policy

    Effective date: 2026-09-11

Faces2Names.com (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at faces2names.com and the Faces2Names.com mobile app for Android and iOS. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

    Information we collect

    • Account information — name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and optional profile details you provide.
    • Content you upload — memories, photos, videos, narrations, family tree data, posts, messages, and other material you choose to store or share on the service.
    • Location data (optional) — if you enable Location in Settings → Privacy, we may use your device location to attach places to diary entries or memories, show Places, and (if you also enable nearby suggestions) store an approximate location to suggest connections who are close by. You can also import Google Takeout Location History files you choose to upload, and calendar events you choose to import from Google Calendar, Apple Calendar (.ics / iCloud), or (in the iOS app) on-device calendars.
    • Connection and activity data — connections, groups, notifications, and actions you take on the site or in the app.
    • Device and technical data — IP address, browser or app user agent, session identifiers, and push notification tokens when you use the mobile app and allow notifications.
    • Support communications — information you send when you contact us for help.

    How we use information

    • Provide, maintain, and secure your account and the Faces2Names.com service.
    • Display your content according to the privacy settings you choose (for example family-only or connections-only).
    • Send in-app and mobile push notifications you have enabled in Settings → Notifications.
    • Respond to support requests and protect against abuse, fraud, and unauthorised access.
    • Improve reliability and performance of the website and mobile apps.

    Mobile app permissions

The Faces2Names.com Android app may request permission to:

    • Notifications — to deliver alerts you have turned on.
    • Camera, microphone, and photos — only when you use website features inside the app that require them (for example uploading a photo or recording a memory).
    • Internet access — to load the Faces2Names.com website inside the app.

You can change notification preferences under Settings → Notifications, and location or microphone access under Settings → Privacy. You can also revoke device permissions in your phone’s system settings.

    Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:

    • With other users according to your privacy and sharing settings.
    • With service providers that help us operate the service (for example secure hosting and push notification delivery via Google Firebase Cloud Messaging).
    • When required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.

    Data retention and deletion

We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. You may request account deletion or correction by contacting us. Some content may remain in backups for a limited period after deletion.

    Security

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the nature of the data we hold, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication where offered.

    Children

Faces2Names.com is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action. See our Child Safety Standards for our policy on child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).

    International users

Your information may be processed in countries where we or our service providers operate. By using Faces2Names.com you consent to such processing, subject to applicable law.

    Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

    Child Safety Standards

    Effective date: 2026-09-11

Faces2Names.com (“we”, “us”, “our”) has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). These standards apply to the Faces2Names.com website and mobile apps.

    Our standards

    • CSAE and CSAM are strictly prohibited on Faces2Names.com.
    • We do not permit content that sexualises, exploits, or endangers children.
    • We do not permit adults to groom, solicit, or communicate with children for abusive purposes.
    • Faces2Names.com is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow under-13 accounts.
    • Users must comply with applicable laws and our privacy and sharing controls when posting content involving family members who are minors.

    Detection, removal, and enforcement

    • We investigate reports of suspected CSAE or CSAM and act promptly to remove violating content and restrict or terminate accounts involved.
    • We may use technical and organisational measures, including user reports and account restrictions, to enforce these standards.
    • We preserve information as required by law when investigating serious abuse reports.

    Reporting CSAE or CSAM

If you see content or behaviour on Faces2Names.com that may involve CSAE or CSAM, report it immediately to:

    support@faces2names.com

Include relevant links, usernames, dates, and a description. For imminent danger, contact your local emergency services first.

We also encourage reports to appropriate national authorities, such as Hotline.ie (Ireland — the national reporting centre for suspected illegal online content, including CSAM) or equivalent organisations in your country.

    Cooperation with authorities

Where required by law, we report CSAM to relevant authorities and cooperate with law-enforcement investigations relating to child safety.
